4月27日晚7点,外院在丽泽楼成功举办外籍教师系列讲座第五场🧖🏼♂️。本次主讲人Mr. Stephen Keen带着同学们领略了新西兰的风土民情🧍🏻♂️。
Mr. Stephen Keen以影片《指环王》中的一张在新西兰取景的图片开始了此次的演讲。首先👨🦱,他介绍了新西兰的地理位置及气候,并向同学们阐述了新西兰国旗象征的意义以及新西兰的神话故事。除此之外🛼,他还展示了人类到达这片土地前生活在那里的动物的图片,其中最具代表性的是几维鸟,它几乎是新西兰的代名词。
介绍了对新西兰有着重大历史影响的人物后,Mr. Stephen Keen列出了很多新西兰的“第一”,如它是世界上第一个给予妇女选举权的国家。在语言和文化方面💅🏽,他把新西兰与英美及其近邻澳大利亚做了比较,突出了新西兰的独特之处。之后🧑✈️,他又从旅游景点🧑🧒🧒、特色美食及娱乐活动等方面进一步展示了新西兰的魅力🧑⚖️。

A Lecture: New Zealand - the Enz of the Earth

At 7 p.m. on April 27, the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) held the fifth lecture given by overseas teachers in Lize C107. This time, Mr. Stephen Keen gave a speech entitled "New Zealand - the Enz of the Earth " which contributed to students'' knowledge about New Zealand.
With a picture of New Zealand from the film The Lord of the Rings, the lecture began. Firstly, Mr. Stephen Keen introduced its geographic location and the local climate. Then, he explained the symbolic meaning of its national flag and told some legends related to New Zealand. In addition, he also showed some pictures of animals which existed before humans'' arrival. Among them, kiwi which has become the symbol of the country was unique.
After the introduction of some influential men in New Zealand''s history, he listed many "firsts" of New Zealand, such as the first country which endowed women with the right to vote. Comparing with America, England and Australia, he pointed out the distinction between New Zealand and these countries in language and culture. To familiarize students with the charm of New Zealand, he also introduced its scenic spots, special food, recreational activities and other fascinating things.
With a short and interesting video related to the topic, the lecture came to an end. Students said that they knew more about New Zealand from this terrific lecture.
