SFL Offered the Chinese Course for Foreign Teachers
By SHEN Xiaoqian
At 7p.m on March 25th , the School of Foreign Languages started the first Chinese class for foreign teachers in Room A107 in Liyun Building. The course is available to all foreign teachers in BNUZ. It would be taught by Ms. Wang Yining, Ms. Wang Yan, Ms. Gao Yuan and Ms. Zhang Minli. The course would cover the basic introduction of Pinyin, daily communication and expressions of feelings, through which foreign teachers could make better communication in China.
Before the class, Ms. Wang Yining knew that many foreign teachers had not yet learned Chinese, and Ms. Sarah Tillman could have daily communication in Chinese by a year of learning. Then a foreign teacher came in with “Ni hao, peng you”, a way of greeting in Chinese. Ms. Wang Yan made her self-introduction in a teaching style, which was impressive and informative.
At the beginning of Pinyin learning, some foreign teachers couldn’t grasp the proper pronunciation. Mr. Andrew Chun raised a suggestion to combine the Pinyin with the related Chinese character, which could be more visual. Ms. Wang Yining tried this new way and found that the class was easier to sink in. It was a good illustration of the saying that teaching benefits teacher and students alike.
After class, Ms. Wang Yining said Pinyin seemed so native to her, which instead made the teaching more difficult than she had expected. Thanks to the first class and the suggestions given by these foreign “students”, she had found out a suitable method. When leaving the classroom, one of the foreign teachers responded in Chinese to say goodbye, beaming with pride.
