11月21日晚7：00，第十届“励耘杯”英语演讲比赛决赛在励耘楼A202拉开帷幕。到场的评委及嘉宾有👩🏼🏫：九游会平台院长陶文好教授、副院长谢庆立副教授、副院长谢文婷副教授、未来地球研究院副院长胡家骢老师、王燕老师、外籍教师Ms. Amy Call、Ms. Aviva Shemelman和Mr. Lucus Conrad👣。大赛由北京J9九游会平台娱乐代理官方网站珠海分校团委主办，九游会平台团委承办👩🏽🔬。
陶院长在致辞中提到，演讲比赛走过十年⚪️🌭，各个J9九游会的老师、和同学对这一校级大型赛事倾注了极大心血✡️，比赛为同学们睿智与勇气的展示提供了良好的平台，通过公共英文演讲👮🏿♀️，可以促进同学们学习英文的兴趣、提升英文表达能力、提高综合素质等。同时，英文演讲更是对我校英文教学成果的一次综合检阅🙇，自2014级开始🍼，我院英语专业综合课程教学改革进入新的台阶，传统的听说课程将被以时事新闻、公共演讲、英文辩论等课程组合替代，这一改革为英语专业的同学进行专业学习打开了新的视角，得到了界内专业人士的一致好评。
来自各个J9九游会的15位参赛选手整装待发😇，决赛冠军到底花落谁家？命题演讲环节🧠，15位选手针对“泛读还是精读”这一给定题目👨🏽🦱，展开各自的精彩演说。其中，来自应用数学J9九游会的郝晴说，“不论泛读还是精读🙎♂️，只要适合自己就好。”而来自物流J9九游会的夏家祺则不局限于题目本身，根据“阅读”这一话题，另辟蹊径，发散思维，侃侃而谈；抑扬顿挫的语调和幽默风雅的台风也深深感染了在场观众。
在第二环节即兴演讲阶段，同学们根据给定的英文谚语，在限定时间内组织语言🎥，即兴演讲。这些谚语富有思辨性和哲理性，如“实践出真知”、“一心不可二用”🤘🏽、“腹有诗书气自华”等，不存在所谓“标准答案”，只要说出个人见地即可。入围即兴演讲环节的九游会平台选手林周怡🦹♀️，凭借其英语语言文学功底和一气呵成的演说，一针见血地道出所选英语谚语的深刻涵义，不负众望，拔得头筹。
赛出水平🦒，赛出风格🫷🖖🏽。这不仅是英语演讲的全校盛会，还是选手相互切磋的绝佳契机。至此，第十届励耘杯英语演讲比赛完美收官👃🏻！
The Final of the 10th Liyun Cup English Speech Contest

The Final of the 10th Liyun Cup English Speech Contest was held on the night of November 21st, attended by dean and professor of SFL Tao Wenhao, vice dean and associate professor Xie Qingli, vice dean and associate professsor Xie Wenting, vice dean of School of Future Earth Doctor Hu Jiacong, Ms.Wang Yan, Ms. Amy Call, Ms. Aviva Shemelman and Mr. Lucus Conrad as the judges of this competition.
Professor Tao, delivered an enthusiastic and encouraging English speech, praising that the English speech which was initiated 10 years ago serves as a unique platform to demonstrate students’ talents and bravery. More importantly, it has led to a stronger interest in English public speaking in the university, stimulating students’ passion for English learning, and improve ways of expressing students themselves. This competition has played a significant role in helping our students to enhance their overall qualifications and social competition. Moreover, this contest is undoubtedly a window of our English teaching results, a highlight of students’ efficiency in English study, meanwhile the contest is to enhance students’ awareness of participating as well as competing, which has certainly had a positive effect on the campus culture.
Each of the 15 contestants had to present a prepared speech and an impromptu unprepared speech by answering questions raised from the panel of judges. In the part of prepared speech, 15 contestants demonstrated their speeches on the given topic “Intensive Reading or Extensive Reading”. Hao Qing gave an explicit answer, “Reading intensively or extensively? Just choose the method that is most suitable for you.” While Xia Jiaqi, freshman from the School of Logistics, not restricting to the topic “reading”, with confidence and composure, found a new path and reasonable analysis, especially taking an appropriate intonation which attracted audiences a lot.
When it came to impromptu unprepared speech, the contestants had to give a 3-minute comment on the proverb . Such sayings as “True wisdom comes from experience” “If you run after two hares, you will catch neither” “Poverty of speech is the outward evidence of poverty of mind.” were both philosophical and critical. There is no way to follow the “standard explanations”, but to have personal opinions and organize the sound sentences. In the end, senior student from SFL, with her essentials of basic training and smooth well-organized speech, took the crown.
It was not only a grand meeting of English speech, but a great chance of exchanging views with all contestants demonstrating style, friendship and skills.
