4月8日晚，第二场外籍教师系列讲座在乐育C108举行。本场讲座的主题是“教育——首要的还是次要的🙏🏿？”，主讲的外籍教师是Mr. Neville Swartz🦸🏻‍♂️🛢。

首先👨‍⚕️， Nville问同学们对如今课堂学习情况的看法。同学们联系实际生活🖇，坦白道出课堂中学习模式的一些问题，例如👩🏽‍🔧：师生交流不够，学生缺乏独立思考，学生的积极性较低等。而 Neville指出更重要的一点📷，课堂上手机的滥用非常阻碍同学们学习的步伐。那么有没有更好学习的方式呢？随后🏋🏼， Neville放映了Jim Taylor教授在香港高校演讲的视频，视频中Jim Taylor教授认为网络技术更新换代🎰，教育方式也应随之改进🏮🧤。他提出“融合学习”的观点，举出中国学生数量剧增和教学资源不足的数据，详细说明了改变授课方式的迫切需求🦩。

进而🧑🏼‍🎓， Neville就学习情况的形势做出了分析。他到中国后了解到高考的利弊，与西方教育相似地🦾，他认为一切的教育最终都是以测试得出的一个数字结果来衡量学生的全部，这种评价并不完全客观😼、公平。所以他赞成教育改革，利用新时代发达的网络技术，促进一个更好的学习环境的建立。最后，他打开了他建立的学习交流网络进行演示，并向同学们推荐了一个叫“Moodle”的全球性免费的学习平台💁🏿。

A lecture: The Alternative of Traditional Education

On the evening of April 8, Mr. Neville Swartz held a lecture entitled “Education—Leading or Following?” in LeYu BuildingC108.

First of all, Neville asked the students what they thought of the learning situation in class. The students had a discussion on some common issues on learning such as, not enough interaction between the teacher and students, the lack of independent thinking of students and the low students’ participation. What’s more, Neville pointed out that the misuse of the cell phone in class bothered a lot. So, Were there any better ways for learning？Next, Neville showed a video about Professor Jim Taylor’s speech in a university at Hong Kong, which presented the idea that, online education could be an alternative of traditional education. In the video, Professor Jim Taylor’s concept”Blended learning” was interpreted with details on the disaccord of the increasing demand with the educational resources, explaining the urgent need to innovate the traditional learning.

Then, Neville made further efforts on analyzing the problems existing in learning. After he knew about the pros and cons of Gao Kao, similar to the western education, he made a conclusion that it was not entirely objective and fair to judge a student with a score of the exam. Therefore he approved of educational reforms by utilizing the modern Internet technology to build a better learning environment. At last, Neville introduced his learning website to students and recommended a free global online learning platform named” Moodle”.

In terms of everyone’s different learning preferences, there is still an inspiration tonight. Why not have a new try on the online learning?
