On March 19h, English Corner was held in the library and the overseas teachers present were: Mr. Christopher Dockstader,Mr. Charlie Reis,Mr. Sean McHugh and Ms. Linda J. Visner. The topic was the ifferences between Chinese and Western Education Modes .
Mr. Sean McHugh told the students that he appreciated Chinese education mode. Compared with Chinese education mode, British education was deficient. Some students in western countries ignored the discipline of school. What’s worse, sometimes, they didn’t respect their teachers. It was difficult for British students to learn knowledge deeply. They spent much time relaxing.
Ms. Linda J. Visner analyzed the difference between American and Chinese class size. In America, there were at most 30 students in one class. Therefore, every teacher could pay attention to every student and improve their studies. Because the lack of teachers and growing numbers of students in China, many students had no chance to interact with teachers in class. In addition, Mr. Charlie Reis mentioned that Chinese mode focused on correct answers, while American mode emphasized on thinking process.
In a word, both education modes have their own advantages and disadvantages. However, students can learn a lot in both modes if their work very hard.
