A training session for new foreign teachers was held successfully in Liyun A212, at 3:00 p.m.on 12th September. The training session was hosted by Vice Dean and Associate Professor Elizabeth Xie. Vice Dean and Associate Professor Alex Xie, Vice Dean Wendy Wang, Ms. Lily Li, Ms. Michelle Tan, Mr. Martin Stannard and six new foreign teachers attended the meeting. The new foreign teachers are Dr. Aviva Shimelman, Mr. Alex Doubinin, Mr. David Riddiford, Mr. Jason Cullen, Jeremy Jenkin and Mr. Lucas Conrad.
The training session was composed of four sections. First, Associate Professor Elizabeth Xie gave a brief introduction of SLF, arranged the welcoming dinner and gave some suggestions on their daily and working life on campus. Second, Associate Professor Alex Xie introduced teaching affairs in details concerning two types of courses, English-major courses and college English for non-English majors, including examination design, assessment, textbook and teaching method. He also emphasized the regulations on teaching. Third, Ms. Wendy Wang explained the attendance system so as to help them to check attendance more efficiently.
At last, Ms. Lily Li shared her own experience of teaching with new foreign teachers and exchanged ideas of teaching English to Chinese students.
