Today, Ms.Linda J.Visner, Ms.Dulene Cipiriano, Mr. Charlie Reis, Dr. Mathew Conduct and Mr. Long attended the English Corner.
Dulene asked if the housewives in China learned English. Most of the students said no, but one student said his grandmother always asked him some basic English words. Then, Dulene raised a question: how to encourage more excellent teachers in big cities to teach in the countryside? However, students couldn’t think up a good idea because they haven’t thought about this problem beore. At last, the topic turned to technology. Dulene said when she was a child, there were only 3 channels on television. So the kids had to focus on one thing. But now we have hundreds of channels, we sit on sofa and just push the button to change the channel in 30 seconds. She thought to some extent technology had a bad influence on our intelligence. But a student disagreed with her. He said this was a kind of tendency, and people needed to adapt to the developing technology.
Mr. Long talked about “perception” with students. Perception is what you feel about the person who you meet the first time according to what you see. Mr. Long asked students to say their perceptions of two of the students and him. The various answers were really interesting.
With the laughter, the English Corner came to an end. Students learned a lot from different cultures and different ideas.
